Woody’s Words – Week 66 – Anniversaries

Woody's Words

Woody the Safety Bloke shares the anniversary of his accident!!
A date and time he will never forget.

Good day everyone; Woody again. Hey listen, something a little bit different this week. Anniversaries or significant dates in our lives. I mean most of us, we like to celebrate anniversaries or happy time. You think about birthdays, wedding anniversaries, I know a couple of people that actually celebrate divorce anniversaries, grand final day – we had grand final this weekend, [Bathers – 00:46] next weekend. So we normally associate anniversaries or significant dates with pretty positive times.

But I’ve got a significant date that I don’t celebrate, and it’s the 23rd of September and it’s the day that I got hurt at work. Now even 30 years since my accident, every time that date comes around, I get a little bit pissed off. I sometimes get upset. I sometimes get absolutely blind drunk. Sometimes I just disappear, like I’ll pack my car up with a sleeping bag and just take off for the weekend and I don’t know why. I mean it’s just a date. It’s a date in my calendar, and I don’t know what it is but I think the point that I’m trying to make here is, you ask anyone that’s been hurt pretty badly or that’s lost a family member or a loved one to an accident, and they will remember the exact date and the exact time that it happened. So when something like this happens to you, it does become a significant date in your life.

I don’t know, I mean you’d reckon that it would be just another day, but the day for me has passed for this year and I got through it again. So I can’t say I’m going to look forward to the same date next year, but yeah when something like this happens, it stays with you for the rest of your life.

Stay safe Australia. I am Woody.
