Woody’s Words – Week 76 – Get OFF your Phone

Woody's Words

Woody the Safety Bloke and Safety Annie remind us about not using your mobile phone in the car.
Make a commitment to yourself…Get OFF your Mobile.

Hi everyone, this is Safety Annie and this is Rudy Rudolph and this is Rudolph the red-nosed Reindeer and I’ve got a special message, please don’t use your mobile phones in the car, stay safe Australia.

Good day everyone, it’s woody again and this week I want to have a little bit of a whinge to you. Now I know some of you will say that I whinge all the time but this is a little bit of a different whinge and it’s all about these things, mobile phones, I’m really starting to hate them and I actually think they’re a little bit dangerous, especially when we’re operating a vehicle or a piece of machinery.

A quick story, my young bloke rang me the other day and he was in the car and we were having a bit of a conversation and something happened at his end, he said that someone pulled out in front of him so anyhow he beeped the horn and I said to him straight away, I said mate listen how about you ring me when you, when you pulled up or when you stopped and it got me thinking that you know, he was actually distracted talking to me while he was driving the car.

Now luckily nothing happened but I said to my young bloke, I said, ‘look let’s make a bit of a deal from now on that you don’t call me while you’re driving’, now I know that might sound a little bit harsh and I know we’ve got things like hands-free kits that you can talk while you’re driving but I honestly believe that these things can distract you from what you’re actually doing so you know, if you’ve got kids, make sure that they don’t use the phone while they’re in the car, tell them to put it in the glove box or put it in the boot, somewhere that they won’t be tempted to pick it up and especially text messaging.

I mean I don’t know about you but I’ve actually driven and been in the car and you see people down, checking their Facebook status or trying to send a text message while they’re operating a vehicle so let’s let’s put a bit of a little plan in place and get rid of these things while we’re in the car.

Anyhow just my whinge for this week, I’m Woody and stay safe Australia.
