Woody the Safety Bloke is NOT Happy!!
He is over hotels saying they are accessible when they are NOT…..
Good day everyone. Woody here. This week I am up Hunter valley and I’m working for a company but that’s irrelevant. I am bit angry at the moment so you’re going to have to excuse me if I get a little bit flustered.
Before I left today, I’ve had a few issues with rooms over the last couple of months. So Vanessa went where I was staying just to confirm that I was staying in a wheelchair accessible room and she was assured that the room was accessible. So anyhow, I fly up from Melbourne to Newcastle and I had about an hour, bit over an hour to drive to where I was staying. Got to the room late at night, it’s just on 8 p.m., I wanted to have a shower, to just relax and go to bed. I get here and I see this. Now have a look at this. This is their idea of an accessible bathroom. It’s a shower enclosure with a tiny little seat, I mean one of my ass cheeks wouldn’t even fit on that seat. How am I supposed to sit on that and have a shower. That’s bullshit. And look, you’ve got to try and hold the door back and the door hits my chair because I get back enough to this wall. So I am going to try and maneuver my way around the bathroom. I know I keep whinging about this, but it really pisses me off that they say they have an accessible facility, and they just don’t. They’ve got no idea.
There’s another thing, I want to show you this. Have a look at this. That’s the dunny, now it’s got these fancy bars and rails all around it, which are fine, but that is not a proper accessible wheelchair toilet; that’s only about 18 inches off the ground, I mean to lift yourself on and off of that, it’s just bullshit. I’m over it. I’m going to name this place and I’m going to make sure they know about this video. I’m going to try and do something to change it, make it a little bit more wheelchair friendly or James friendly.
Anyhow, I’m Woody; sorry for the whinge but I’m pretty pissed off at the moment.
