Woody’s Words – Week 15 – Mowing the Lawn

Woody's Words

Woody the Safety Bloke shows you how he has to get on & off the lawn mower!

Good day everyone, Woody again, hey listen I can’t push a handle  now I live on a little bit of property, so the only way that I can mow my lawns is either to get somebody else to do it for me or to use a ride on lawn mower but I can’t stand up, not even for a couple of seconds so the way that I have to get on lawn mower is physically lift myself on and off, just by using my arms so just bear with me for a second and I’ll show you how it all works.

First, lift my leg up there and other one up there, sort of adds a whole new meaning to throwing a leg over, doesn’t it and then put a leg up on the seat and then I shuffle forward a little bit on the wheelchair. In the next part, I have to physically lift myself out of the chair onto the seat, so here we go.

Now that’s how I have to get on and off my lawn mower every time. I’ve got to be honest with you, some days when the lawns need mowing, I just can’t be bothered doing that, so yeah I wished it was different, hey I suppose for those of you who are interested in how I get off the lawn mower.

Here’s the second part, so just lift my legs over the steering wheel, they’re on to the ground and then I physically lift myself from the lawn mower onto the seat. I get a little bit of muscle spasm where my legs just do their own things and that sometimes makes it difficult but I just have to lift myself onto my wheelchair and hopefully not fall flat on my back side, so there you go. How’d you like to have to do that every time you wanted to mow your lawns, see you soon.
