WINTER & ME

By Michelle Rath

So we are in the final weeks of winter, and I am reminded that my health can certainly be delicate, more so this time of the year than any other.
All of my life I have suffered from Asthma and Bronchitis.
I remember as a child, I frequently had bouts in hospital as the treatment back then wasn’t as advanced as it is now.
This is what we recognise as ‘progress’.
I need to be mindful of looking after myself in an attempt to reduce any serious infections as my Bronchitis has me out of action for a minimum of 3-4 weeks and no amount of medication helps during this time. It’s very debilitating to say the least.
Most of us take our health for granted but when it is compromised by an ailment, we just have to keep fighting to get back on the horse.

Keep well everyone and don’t forget to check in on those that matter.

A VALUABLE LESSON FOR WINTER

By Alan Newey

I learned a valuable lesson recently.
While presenting for CNB Safe, I found myself in the coldest environment I had ever been in.
I thought I was prepared but boy, was I wrong.
I always say “if what I talk about affects you and you need to leave please do, I don’t need another person fainting.”

Well during my presentation my legs went to jelly. It was so cold I could not feel my feet and l was losing feeling in my body.
I could tell I was in trouble when the audience became balls of light and I could not make out any people in front of me for a while.

I cannot recall half of the things l said to the audience, which is scary!
As presenters of our experiences on how important safety is, we still must look after ourselves as well.

The experience reminded me that whatever anyone does for a job, you must look after yourself so you can look after others.
