Mental Health
Woody the Safety Bloke… My experience with Mental Health support….
Watch Mental Health Part 2 here
Good day everyone, Woody again, hey my Woody’s Words videos so far have mainly focused on how my accident changed my life physically but there’s another way that getting hurt changes things for you and that’s the mental side of things.
Now when I had my accident, I was only in my 20s, I don’t think I was very emotionally mature so I really struggled mentally. I mean I’m in the prime of my life and all of a sudden I’m told that I’m going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life so I did really struggle with things mentally.
Now I had some good people around me at the time, some good family support, some good mates that if they ever saw that I was struggling with things either physically struggling or even a little bit mentally struggling, they either did something for me or they said something to me that pick me back up again, there was no mental health support back when I got hurt.
I can remember once this elderly lady came into the room, the hospital room and she was probably you know late 60s maybe even early 70s. Now she was a social worker and she said to me, she says, hey how’re you coping with things love and I looked at her and I’ve gone, ya I’m okay thanks so that was the extent of the mental health support that I was offered so I do want you to just have a think about how you’d cope mentally, if you got hurt. Don’t hurt yourself people, it’s not worth it, I’m Woody, stay safe Australia.
