Thirty (30) years ago (1996), I received a phone call from someone asking me if I would do a TV commercial for WorkCover (now WorkSafe).
At the time, I was working for a floor covering company, not earning much, so when they told me they would pay me, I said “Yes”.

Little did I know this would be the start of a 30-year journey of sharing my story with workplaces in Australia and around the world.

I’d like to think it’s been worth it. I’ve met some amazing people over the last 30 years and I’ve learned a lot. I have never tried to be something I’m not. I make it clear that I’m not a safety professional. I’m a diesel mechanic who got hurt at work and somehow I’m able to tell my story in a way that other people can relate to.

If by sharing my story I have made people think about the choices they make and possibly have stopped even one person from getting hurt, the last 30 years have been worth it!
