Earlier this year I was contacted by Megan McGhie from Real Pet Food (RPF). Meg was enquiring about how a Safety Speaker might work with their Australian and New Zealand operations to help them improve their Safety Performance.
The interesting thing about our initial discussion was that Meg and her team were looking at building a whole culture change and using a Safety Speaker to help achieve this.
Over several meetings, we discussed the content of my message and how we could make it relatable to RPF employees and include some key takeaways.
I suppose the reason I’m sharing this is that many of my clients ask me to visit their workplaces after an incident or a High Potential Incident (HPI), and it’s a bit like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.
I love seeing a pro-active approach to safety. I was impressed at the initial roll out including my site visits but also the future plans to appeal to hearts and minds and make people understand that Safety is not just a bunch of rules and regulations, it’s about going home safely after a day at work!
It was great to work with Meg and her team, Jospeh Dalo (JD), David van den Bosch, Fred Hugues (NZ), Steve Toomey, Brittany and especially Wayne Bowry who sat through every single session at multiple sites in Australia. Huge effort!
BUT it doesn’t stop here!
I often wonder what happens after me or one of my team shares their stories with a workplace. RPF are continuing to make changes and improve old practices to make sure that no one gets hurt or killed while doing their job!
Awesome job RPF, looking forward to continuing our work together.
