Ok so when someone gets hurt at work, the changes are usually immediate! This means we have to change the way we do things, maybe modify where we live, and possibly look at changing what we do with our families & for work.
But what about the future?
If the injury is permanent & will be with you for the rest of your life have you thought about what it would be like to live with an injury later in life?
Here are some of the things that I need to consider because of my injury:
Diet – I have to be careful what I eat & drink. The more weight I put on the more weight I have to lift in & out of bed, on & off the toilet etc…
Exercise – I force myself to exercise most days, I don’t want to get to the point that I have to rely on other people to push me, or to do things for me
Wear & Tear – I have to use my arms more than most & this causes my shoulders, elbows & wrists to wear out!
Extra stress – I’m sitting down for a large part of the day, this puts a lot of stress on my organs Liver & kidneys etc…, elevating the chance of them failing?
Mental Health – many people that have to deal with injury “Long Term” eventually also have to deal with mental health issues.
Getting old!….. – is hard enough for able bodied people, but if you have an injury it becomes just that little bit harder
Lot’s more……
Whew…. I just read that list & realised it’s gonna be interesting for me in the next 20 years or so!…..
Don’t hurt yourself!….. It’s just not worth it!
